About ADScope

ADScope is a standalone Active Directory admin tool. Search users, computers and groups, reset passwords, unlock and enable or disable accounts, and browse OUs.

It runs as a single self-contained .exe, with no installer and no Microsoft RSAT tools required. By default it uses your signed-in Windows credentials, so there’s nothing to configure on a domain-joined PC.

Only use it on domains you administer.

What it does

  • Auto-detects your domain on a domain-joined PC (or enter a domain/DC)
  • Fast search for users, computers, and groups
  • Reset password with a strong random generator, unlock, enable/disable
  • Add or remove users from groups
  • Computer details with RDP, ping, and open C$ share
  • LAPS password and BitLocker recovery keys when you have rights
  • Find locked, disabled, or stale accounts; passwords expiring soon
  • Bulk unlock; OU browser; CSV export; session action log (passwords never logged)

Built with AI

How it was built

ADScope was built by a Cursor cloud agent (an AI coding agent that works in the cloud) from a short request.

Under the hood

  • .NET 8 with WPF
  • Published as a single self-contained .exe, with no installer
  • 96 unit tests, including LDAP filter escaping, password generation, DN parsing, and session-log redaction

Good to know

The app was built on a Linux machine, where a WPF window can't run, so the user interface itself wasn't exercised there. The logic underneath is what the unit tests cover. That's also why this page shows an illustration rather than a screenshot.

  • Loading indicator and Cancel button in the OU pane

1.0.0 (18 Oct 2026)

  • First release.
